Training your dog

A rewarding part of dog ownership is successfully training your dog. Training is an excellent way to bond with your dog and will help you build a good relationship with them. Whether young or old - all dogs can benefit from learning some basic commands.

One thing to understand is that dogs that are from a shelter environment may not have had any training or have forgotten some of their training from their previous home. But dogs are smart and receptive to positive reinforcement. Some learn better using treats, some with toys and other types of rewards.

The key is to find the best training method for your dog and being patient and consistent.Behavior issues that pop up suddenly could be an indication of discomfort or pain so please contact your vet for a wellness check. Animals can’t tell us what is wrong so they show us in ways that make us think they are being naughty, when in fact it’s a medical issue.
